Life can get really busy sometimes, and before you know it, months have passed you by. With work, chores, errands, school, finances, helping people in their time of need, and being a support system for your family, friends, and community, you can easily forget to include yourself in the equation! It is truly a blessing to be able to help others and take care of day-to-day necessities, but when you overdo it, you run the risk of giving until you have nothing left to give. You may find that you don’t have the energy or time for yourself, and it can leave you feeling depleted.
Make sure that while you are uplifting and helping others, as well as marking things off your “To-Do List,” you have people around you who are sensitive to your needs as well. It is always good to have people in your life who can pour into you when you have poured out so much into others, especially if they are people whose company you enjoy because of their positive conversation and presence. Make sure you know your friends’ personality traits, never try to make a “receiver” a “giver!” A receiver will want something reciprocated for pouring into you, while a giver will recognize from your conversation what you need and is willing to give it to you without asking for anything in return. Identify who those people are; if you have just one, you are still considered blessed by any standard.
Sometimes you have to take a step back and make sure that you are taking care of yourself as well. Make sure to set aside some time where you can participate in activities that nurture your spirit. Make a list of the activities that rejuvenate you and do those when your well is getting a little low. Strike a balance so that as you pour out, you are getting poured into so that you never let your well run dry.
Until next time, love you lots! -Sacred
