Ok, are you guys ready? I don’t just mean in this new year, but for a year that will end on a guaranteed positive note. I know, you might think it’s impossible to say that, but I assure you, it is. I’ve had some pretty bad years in the past, and the ones where I kept a gratitude jar turned out to be more positive. It allowed me to see the great things that were also taking place in that same year and focus on them.
So, if keeping it simple is what will make the difference between you doing it versus not doing it, let’s keep this very simple. All you need is a jar or vase—heck, a Tupperware container or a Ziploc/shopping bag will do if that’s what you have. We are working with what we have here, so dress it up as much or as little as you want. What goes inside is where the magic happens.
In the past, I would write down what brought me joy, what accomplishments I was proud of, or something that I was grateful for at that moment. Those are the times I would add something to my container. This year, I challenged myself. This year, I’m writing one thing each day that I’m grateful for and/or enjoyed that day. Can you imagine having that many to read at the end of the year?
Oh yeah, that’s how it works—you wait until New Year’s Eve, and you read all of the great things you experienced over the year. I’m a witness that when you do this, you’ll be amazed at the things you forgot happened because, for some reason, negative experiences stick with us easier than positive ones. This is a way to tip the scales back in a positive direction and end the year on a good note.
Previously, I didn’t have anywhere near a gratitude entry per day, but I can tell you that what I did have made a huge difference in how I ended that year. Let me know in the comments section if you’ve done or will do this. Until next time, beautiful people.
