Life can get really busy sometimes, and before you know it, months have passed you by. With work, chores, errands, school, finances, helping others in their time of need, and being a support system for your family, friends, and community, it’s easy to forget to add yourself to the equation! While it’s truly a blessing to be able to help others and take care of the day-to-day necessities, overdoing it can leave you running on empty.
You may find that you no longer have the energy or time for yourself, and this can leave you feeling totally depleted. But here’s the thing: In the hustle and bustle of life, it’s crucial to remember that, just like your physical body needs rest, your spirit needs nurturing too. When you’re constantly giving and checking off items on your “To-Do” list, it’s easy to overlook your own needs.
It’s so important to ensure that while you’re uplifting and supporting others, you also have people around you who are sensitive to your needs. Surround yourself with individuals who can pour into you as you pour into others. And even better, choose those who bring positive conversation, good energy, and a peaceful presence into your life. The people you spend time with should leave you feeling refreshed, not drained.
Know who your “receivers” and “givers” are! A receiver is someone who wants something reciprocated for their effort. They may expect something in return when they pour into you. But a giver—well, a giver is someone who, through your conversation and energy, can sense your needs and willingly gives to you without asking for anything in return.
If you have even one person like that in your life, consider yourself blessed. These kinds of relationships are truly precious. And remember, you also have the responsibility to nurture yourself! Take the time to participate in activities that feed your spirit and rejuvenate your soul. Whether it’s reading, going for a walk in nature, meditating, or simply enjoying a warm cup of tea, be intentional about creating moments that refill your well.
Make a list of the activities that light you up and bring you peace—do these things when your energy starts to run low. Strike a balance between giving and receiving so that as you pour out, you’re also being poured into, ensuring that your well never runs dry.
Until next time, love you lots! – Sacred
