Finally Loving Life

As we enter into the time when the seasons change and time jumps forward an hour, this week we are presented with the Seven of Baskets (also known as the Seven of Cups) tarot card. This card comes up in a reading when you have many opportunities before you and you must take a moment to make a decision. But not just any decision—you must make the right decision. A decision that aligns with what you are wanting to do moving forward. A decision that is realistic and not overshadowed by unrealistic expectations and/or dreamy illusions of grandeur.

I find it interesting that this card has presented itself now. Currently, I am looking for another job to replace the one that will expire in a few months. As I determine what to even look for, I’m keeping in mind the social, economic, and political climate, and how all of these factors could potentially affect me in the coming years. I’m reflecting on what I have personally and spiritually accomplished in the past two years, which was largely due to the type of job I am currently in, and considering how I can maintain the abundance of that hard work and build on it.

Yet, at times, I find myself applying for jobs that may meet most of my financial needs but could potentially set me several steps back in my personal and spiritual life. To be honest, it’s a bit of a roll of the dice — it could wipe out all the progress I’ve made and place me right back where I worked so hard to escape. This process is not an easy one, and at times, it feels very uncomfortable.

This card makes me stop and reflect on what is truly necessary for a future position versus what is merely a wish list of possibilities. I want to ensure that I’m considering not only what can provide for my needs but also what will allow me to thrive, regardless of the ever-changing climate we live in.

The lesson of the Seven of Baskets is about making grounded, thoughtful decisions based on what is truly aligned with your goals and values, while avoiding the temptation of unrealistic dreams or distractions. It’s a call to bring clarity and focus to your choices and recognize that not every opportunity is worth pursuing.

I must step back, look at what I have accomplished, look at my expertise, look at how I want to realistically move forward to the next step, and then choose the best option from the opportunities that have presented themselves. It’s time to get focused and lock in.
