The Art of Cleansing Your Home’s Energy for Protection and Prosperity

So you’re thinking of ways to keep the positive energy going. Here is a simple way to cleanse the energy in your home while keeping it smelling nice and clean. All you will need is some lemons, salt, and bowls.

To determine how many lemons you need, first decide what areas in your home you’d like to place them. For me, I put mine in high-traffic areas—places where I spend a lot of time and that represent important “themes” in my life. For example, I put one in my kitchen to remove negative energy and create a space where positive energy supports cooking healthy foods that nurture my body. I’m not usually someone who enjoys cooking, but this helps me shift my mindset and learn to love spending time in my kitchen, preparing delicious meals for myself. I put one in my den to create a space of love, time spent with healthy relationships (including my relationship with myself), and a place where I can be my fullest self, loved and accepted, flaws and all. A space where I can explore the beautiful parts of who I am and all the great things life has to offer.

I also put one near my door to encourage positive energy and abundance to enter my home while protecting it from negative energy trying to make its way in. Another one goes in my home office/creative space. I work from home, plus I create art in my home studio, so I want to protect both my job and my creativity while inviting abundance into these areas. This includes the way I engage with my craft and my career, as well as the people who are part of that journey with me.The last place I put one is in my bedroom. This is to protect me as I sleep, but also to encourage positive thoughts of acceptance and a healthy mindset about myself and my life. It’s my most personal and intimate space, where I get dressed, do my makeup and hair—basically, the space that represents the most vulnerable aspects of myself. No bad energy allowed here—neither from my inner thoughts nor from others who enter this most intimate space in my home and being.

That being said, you can place lemons in as many spots as you’d like—just make sure they have a purpose and that you’re doing it with intention.

Next, take a lemon and cut it into four sections without cutting all the way through the bottom. Place it inside one of your bowls. I usually use a small bowl, like one that a scoop of ice cream could go in. Note that the top should look like four pieces, all still connected at the bottom. Pull them slightly apart without disconnecting them so you have space to pour the salt between each section and through the middle.

For me, the four sections represent the north, east, south, and west. When I set my intention, I’m sending my prayers in all directions to protect me on every side, but also to bring abundance from every direction. Lemons are a source of cleansing—whether you physically use them in your homemade cleaning solution or in this manner, as a representation of cleansing the space.

Bonus points if you can get real lemons that still have their lemon scent, like the ones you pick off the tree or get at the farmers’ market. They will have your home smelling amazing, and every time you walk into your space, the scent will remind you of your set intentions to keep you in alignment with the path you’re on. If you don’t have access to fresh lemons, no worries—the intentions are still there, and it still works. Remember, the power is within you; everything else is a tool to carry out your set intention.

For salt, I tend to use sea salt in all rooms except my bedroom, where I use pink Himalayan salt. In color therapy, pink is associated with love, affection, compassion, femininity, and acceptance which is perfect for such an intimate part of the home. Salt is known for its protective qualities, so when you pour it over the four sections, you’re calling forth protection from the north, east, south, and west.

As you place each bowl with the lemon covered in salt in the space you choose, speak protection over what that area means to you, while also calling in abundance related to this area of your home. You can leave them in your space until they dry out and/or start turning a dark color.

Once you figure out which spaces you want to attend to, what they mean to you, and how you want to set your intentions, this will become a breeze in the future. And it will be fun, as it reminds you of what you have and how you want to positively protect and enjoy it.

Until next time, love you lots!
